A delegation of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, discussing issues of mutually beneficial partnership with the leadership.
The delegation was welcomed by Yerkin Duisenov, Deputy Chairman of the Board and First Vice–Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. He informed the distinguished guests about the university's strategic cooperation in the field of science and higher education with 65 higher education institutions and organizations in China.
The first vice-rector also spoke about the academic and research work that is being carried out within the framework of the signed agreements, academic exchange programs, according to which in the 2024-25 academic year 21 teachers, 5 doctoral students, 9 undergraduates were sent to universities in China. Currently, 1,440 students from China are studying at KazNU.
Yerkin Duissenov also focused on the activities of the Research Center for Medicinal Plants, on the basis of which a low-tonnage production of innovative products from plant raw materials was opened in 2022, and on the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare. It consists of two schools: the Higher School of Public Health and the Higher School of Medicine, as well as the scientific center "Innovative Healthcare". The faculty's scientists are actively engaged in scientific work: more than 15 international and national scientific projects are being implemented, including 4 projects under the Erasmus+ program. The research is conducted on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of Health and the specialized laboratory of health and the environment.
In response, Han Jianwen, Deputy Chairman of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences (SHAON), spoke about a comprehensive research institution directly subordinate to the party committee of Shandong Province. The Academy consists of 16 research institutes. All areas of its activities demonstrate steady progress and dynamic development.
During the meeting, the parties discussed areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, including the development of joint educational programs in traditional Chinese medicine and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine (at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels), with the possibility of obtaining a double degree, the organization of academic exchanges for students, teachers and researchers, the creation of a joint research center in the field of traditional medicine, pharmacology and bioengineering with the participation of scientists from both sides, the development and implementation of scientific and technical projects, including participation in international grants and publications in leading scientific journals, etc.
